In Short - best week i've ever had on the bike. Amazing food, amazing ride, amazing company. The people at zero neuf remind me why i fell in love with cycling, and remind me that the cycling community is an amazing community to be part of.
In long:
I've been lucky enough to spend the last week playing bikes in the Pyrenees mountains with Mike Tucker, owner and founder of Zero Neuf Cycling. The clubhouse, the centre of the cycling, cuisine, and accommodation, is attached to Mike's family home and guest-house. My bedroom overlooked an infinity swimming pool and the ever-changing landscape of the Pyrenees mountains. The view each morning was breathtaking; I found it hard to contain my excitement each morning as Mike prepared our morning espressos.
The riding was amazing - we rode over 500km throughout the week, and every ride was different. We went into the mountains, rode past lakes, rode through quaint little French villages, through old religious relics, through wineries; I've never said "wow" so much on a bike.
In addition to Mike's amazing guiding, his wife, Joss, ensured we were refuelled every night. Sitting either at the family dining table, or in the cafe, we had 5-star dinners waiting for us every evening, including freshly made main courses and amazing baked goods, made daily by Joss as well. The dinners served as a great chance to catch up on the day's riding and to plan for the following day, and to enjoy the locally brewed wine and beer. It was great being out on the bikes giving it everything each day knowing that an amazing meal would be waiting to replenish us on our return.
The Zero Neuf Cafe is truly unique; you become part of the family and settle into in a very relaxed environment, but with the best food, bikes, routes, and guiding you could ask for. I went solo this time, but I hope to go over with some GSC'ers on my next visit (of which there will be many!).
